Kathie Lynn Englan, born and raised in Ashland, Wisconsin, quietly departed this realm in Menifee, California on June 13, 2022. She was 68, two weeks shy of her 69th birthday. She was born June 27, 1953, the second child of Jeanne Marie Vogue and Richard James “Dick” Englan Jr. , who later owned Sketch Korner tavern in Ashland from 1962-72. She attended Ashland High School, transferring to Tomah High School at age 14. She graduated from Tomah in June 1971. In the spring of 1972, the family moved to Colorado Springs, Colorado to get away from the snow and cold. Kathie met her future husband, Richard Martinez Mendoza, shortly afterwards. They married in May, 1972. One child, Laurie Jean, was born to this union in 1973 in Glendale, California. The marriage ended in divorce in January, 1976. Kathie raised their daughter with the help of her dear friend, business partner, roommate, and fellow single mom, Cindy Heberling. Kathie then moved to Murrieta, Winchester and finally retired in Menifee, California. While working as a waitress at the Swing Inn Café in Temecula, she’d met her second husband, Greg W. Brzycki. They wed in 2005 and divorced in 2018. Kathie, who often went by the nickname “Sam”, was preceded in death by her parents, maternal grandmother Florence Derda, first husband Richard, former brother-in-law David F. Stanley, sister Bonnie Englan, and daughter, Laurie Jean Mendoza. She leaves behind her sister Cindy Englan Wentz, brother-in-law Tim Wentz, her second husband Greg, three grandchildren, Devon, Hunter and Sarah, and two nephews, Adam Stanley and Matt Stanley. Cremation will be provided by Valley Cremation Services in Temecula. Her ashes will be transported to Colorado Springs, in the care of her sister Cindy, 640 Brundidge Ct, Colorado Springs, 80911. No services will be held, per Kathie’s wishes. Memorial donations may be sent to her sister to assist with final arrangements, or The Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region. www. hsppr. org
