Faye accepted Christ at an early age and was always active in church. She attended Beulah Baptist Church in Watts, and in the early 1960’s, she united with Holy Light MBC under the leadership of Founder, Rev. Richmond Brown, where she fellowshipped for over 40 years; later she united with Faith Way MBC where she was a member for 15 years. Faye would also often fellowship at Imani Temple of Temecula COGIC with her youngest daughter and came under their watch care after she moved last year to be centrally located to her three daughters. She was a Choir member for many years, a member of the Solace Club (Bereavement and Visitation Ministry), she served as a co-chairlady and chairlady of Women’s Day programs and later was a member of the church Mothers Board. Throughout her 92 1/2 years of life, Faye was a woman of faith, a woman who loved to worship, and a woman known for her love of God and people. Faye was also an active member and past Worthy Matron of the Esther Chapter #2, Order of the Eastern Star, Golden Poppy Grand Chapter, Hiram of Tyre Grand Lodge for 56 years. In addition to the above, Faye was fun!!! She loved music and dancing; and was always ready to pull out the cards for a good game of Bid Whist, Pitty Pat, or Po-ke-no. She didn’t care if you were a pro or beginner, Faye was willing to teach you a thing or two and happy to “talk plenty of trash” while she did it. She loved watching the Lakers and Rockets basketball games with her sons-in-law and experiencing her grandsons play that same game which was her favorite sport; playing penny slot machines; eating crawfish and "down home" soul food; drinking the occasional Lime-a-Rita and taking long drives where she loved to view the mountains and scenery. Faye was predeceased by her son, Ronnie M. Byrd, and will especially be missed by her surviving children: Gwendolyn (Tommy) Saxon, Rosalyn Davis-Wise, Fayeleecia (Gregory) Johnson, and daughter-in-law, Maxine Byrd; eight grandchildren: Rochelle Byrd-Allen, Ronnie M. Byrd, Jr. , Justin Byrd, Christian Byrd, Dana Saxon, Tiffani Wise, Brandon Wise, and Christopher Johnson; twelve great-grandchildren: Sema'J Coleman, Tyree Williams, Teleda Williams, Kaiya Byrd, Justin Byrd, Jr. , Jasiri Byrd, Kytani Byrd, Jalia Byrd, Anyla Nance, Mikayla Nance, Sir Joseph Barnes, and JahAsharee Moore; four great, great-grandchildren: Naomi Coleman, Adrian Coleman, Samantha Coleman, Ruben Caballero-Byrd; a special niece and nephew: Bruce (Ayrues) Henderson; Goddaughter, Theresa Saunders; Godson, Rev. Delbert Wright; special daughter and friend, Maxine Jackson; caregiver and friend, Esta Reese; a number of very special “adopted” sons and daughters; and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, in-laws, friends and neighbors.
