Artis Finn

Artis Myrick Finn, 81, of Cypress CA, passed away suddenly on March 20th. Artis was born on December 23, 1939, to King and Lois Davis Myrick, Sr. , in Shamrock, FL. After graduating from Rosenwald High School in 1959 she briefly attended Edward Waters College, Jacksonville, FL before transferring to Florida A&M University, Tallahassee, FL. After graduation, she began her 39 year educational career teaching two years at Oscar Patterson Elementary School in Panama City, FL. She moved to Los Angeles, CA, to continue her career and began teaching at Charles W. Bursch, Elementary School within the Compton Unified School District. During her tenure she completed the Masters in Education at Pepperdine University and became a department leader. In addition to her achievements and teaching thousands of children; the pinnacle of her career was being a key component in developing the joint UCLA Music Partnership Program with Bursch Elementary to bring the arts and music to inner city students. Artis was married to the late Marcell Finn, originally of Amite, LA. They resided in both Compton and Cypress, CA until the dissolution of their marriage. She was an accomplished educator, traveler, beloved Aunt, friend and coworker. Artis is survived by her sister Laura J. Myrick Griffin of Lynn Haven, FL, brother King and Dorothy Myrick, Jr. of Lancaster, TX, nephew Crandall Griffin of Virginia, niece Dorkina Myrick of Florida, cousin Chris Ingram of California, a countless number of extended family, coworkers, and friends. Funeral and mausoleum crypt interment services will be held at 1130 AM Monday, April 19, 2021 at Forest Lawn Memorial Parks. The family would like to express our sincerest thanks and gratitude to all who loved and shared a friendship with Artis.
